High surf advisory posted for north, west shores of most islands

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A high surf advisory has been issued until 6 a.m. Monday for the north and west shores of the smaller islands.
The National Weather Service in Honolulu said the advisory is in effect for the north and west shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu and Molokai and the north shores of Maui.
Waves are expected to build to 14 to 18 feet for the north shores, with west shores rising to 10 to 14 feet.
The swell is expected to peak late Sunday into early Monday before gradually declining through Tuesday.
Beachgoers should be aware that strong breaking waves and strong currents will make swimming difficult and dangerous. Check with lifeguards and know your limits before going into the water.
